A native of Oklahoma, Bob Tway was introduced to golf at the age of 5 by his father and grandfather. He started participating in tournaments at the age of 7. He started to show real promise when he won the men's club championship at Redding Country Club in Connecticut at age 13.

Tway moved to Marietta in the middle of his freshman year where he attended Wheeler High School from 1974-1977. He was on 2 state championship teams during his time at Wheeler.  While in high school, Tway won numerous junior golf tournaments, putting him very high in national rankings.

After graduation Tway attended Oklahoma State University, where he had a distinguished career as a member of the golf team. He was a 3-time first team All American and member of 2 NCAA national championship teams, and during his senior year he was voted NCAA college player of the year. At this time, he also won many amateur tournaments and participated in the Masters.as an amateur in 1981.

Tway turned professional in 1981 and joined the PGA Tour in 1985. Tway won 8 PGA Tour Tournaments and 5 other tournaments around the world, his best year coming in 1986, when he won 4 times including a major championship, the PGA Championship. He was selected PGA player of the year in 1986. Tway played the PGA tour for 25 years, and then when he turned 50 years old joined the PGA Champions Tour.

Tway is married to Tammie whom he met while at Oklahoma State University. They have 2 children and reside in Edmond Oklahoma. Kevin Tway, age 30, resides in Jupiter, Florida and is also a professional golfer on the PGA Tour. Carly Tway, age 25, resides in Los Angeles California, where she is a model and owner of Merkababe Design jewelry company.
